The Politics of Fatness
What do we mean when we envision fat cyborgs? How do fatness, phenomenology and Merleau-Ponty interesect? Why is it important to talk about fatness instead of obesity? YES BUT, WHAT ABOUT YOUR HEALTH? How is the fat body represented in greek culture, and how is that connected with Greece’s position in relation to Europe and the West? What does that mean for the embodied experience of fat feminities in Greece? YES BUT, WHAT ABOUT YOUR HEALTH?
In greek society, fatness is considered a self-evident sign of personal failure, self-evidently bad and self-evidently shameful. The above questions aim to outline the political, social and historical aspects that hide behind these wrong convictions.
